The lameness exam is a process of elimination. Beginning with looking at the whole horse the scope of the examination is reduced to a smaller and smaller area until the source of pain is located. A pre-purchase exam is a complete physical and lameness evaluation performed by a veterinarian for a potential buyer of a horse. The purpose is to determine what, if any, health or lameness problems the horse has today and what problems it may develop in the future. Dr. Novick offers a thorough health and lameness prepurchase exam including the ability to offer x-rays, ultrasounds, blood and drug tests.

Regular dental floating is an important part of wellness care for your horse to help them accept the bit and chew their food better. Dr. Novick uses power dental equipment to give your horse the most comfortable feeling possible in their mouth.

Colic, cuts, sudden lameness and illness can all require emergency treatment. You can get care outside of regular office hours from Dr. Novick or a veterinarian from our group of cooperating local practices.

Chronic low grade colics, a horse that becomes girthy, or develops a poor appetite, has a poor attitude towards training, a dull hair coat, decreased performance or becomes a stall kicker, among other issues can all be signs of stomach or colon ulcers. Dr. Novick can scope your horse’s stomach and run a fecal blood tests to help diagnose ulcers and recommend a treatment plan.

The sight of a foal running and playing in the field is second to none. Dr. Novick can confirm your mare is pregnant with an ultrasound and help you to breed your mare via natural cover or artificial insemination.
